Together, we will call on God's presence to break the strongholds of human trafficking, false identity, and every form of oppression. Let us unite in the belief that Every Human Life is invaluable.

Prayer for Your Journey and Heart Posture

PONDER

In each of our journeys to combat the issue of sexual exploitation, we must examine our hearts with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Some of us have been wounded. We always want to start this journey by inviting God to address these wounds in our hearts, minds, and bodies. Keep in mind, healing is a journey. After praying through this section, you may feel the prompting to seek help from a counselor, friend, or a book. We encourage you to keep walking your journey of freedom and peace while believing that God is with you and for you.

PRAYER FOCUS

Holy Spirit, create in me a clean heart, O God. I invite you into my heart to touch any broken place in my soul that has resulted from abuse, harassment, or sexual trauma. I give you my heart, Lord, and trust you to heal and hold all that I am. Father, free my mind, heart, and body from any harmful coping learned from trauma. God, grant me patience and kindness for my process of healing, growth, and forgiveness. Give me the grace to let go of toxic feelings such as shame, self-hatred, and bitterness. I surrender, Lord. Restore unto me the joy of my salvation and the peace granted by the Cross of Christ.

Stand Firm, Shields Up & Belts On

Imagine a Roman soldier dressed in his gear. What does it mean to put on the armor of God, and what does it mean to stand firm? To be victorious in this anti-human trafficking fight and because we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against the principalities of the air, we must be praying and putting on the armor of God daily. May we remember each day to place the helmet of salvation on our head, the breastplate of righteousness on our chest, the shield of faith in our left hand, the sword of the Spirit (Word of God) in our right hand, buckle the belt of Truth on our waist and place the Gospel of peace on our feet.

PRAYER FOCUS

Abba, remind me to depend on You each day. Prompt me to use the tools in my toolbox—from prayer to the armor of God in Ephesians 6. May I also remember to share my testimony and that I have access to the blood of the Lamb and that these two tools will help me overcome the evil one in Revelations 12:11. Thank You, God, that before You went home to the Father, you sent us a Comforter, the Holy Spirit, and that we can do all things through You. Help us stand firm, Lord. May we not waiver or vacillate. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayers for the vulnerable

PONDER

Sex trafficking is the exploitation of the vulnerable. Vulnerable lives can be found in poverty, age, lack of social respect, low self-esteem, fragmented family, racism, manipulation, and many other factors. As you pray, remember that the vulnerable are the target audience of the Gospel (the Kingdom of God, Matt. 21:31). Intercession on behalf of those who are vulnerable is important work in the Kingdom of God.

PRAYER FOCUS

Abba, you are the defender of the weak. You rescue those in need and protect the vulnerable. You remember the poor, marginalized, outcasts, and children—and those who are without protection from evil. We pray for those who are at risk for sexual exploitation in impoverished communities. We pray for children and teens in fatherless or single-parent homes. We ask you to divinely intervene to prevent vulnerable ones from being sexually exploited.

May those who are vulnerable be offered true mentorships that would drive them into sexual exploitation. Jesus, we want to be moved with compassion like you to love my neighbor and those in my community who are not like me. Father, your heart is for those who are vulnerable, and we trust you for your protection.

Prayers for justice and mercy

We are reminded that justice, mercy, and humility before God are part of an integrated response. Neither justice alone nor mercy alone is the response God requires. Furthermore, neither is acceptable absent from humble submission to His leading.

PRAYER FOCUS

Dear God, when I see evil, I am tempted to get angry and want to destroy those who are hurting others. Help me to understand that buyers and traffickers are broken people too, in need of your mercy. Help me to be patient as you extend mercy to them but also trust that you will judge rightly. Help me to trust you as the judge and to bring justice and righteousness in this dark situation as you say in your Word, “Vengeance is Mine” (Deuteronomy 32:35).

Prayers for healing for survivors

PONDER

Nothing can change God’s love for you. This may be difficult to receive, but it is God’s truth. Writers have reminded us that there is nothing you can do to make God love you less, and there is nothing you can do to make God love you more (Yancey). Much earlier in history, we learn about God’s amazing love when we sing a song, “Amazing love! How can it be, that you, my God, should die for me?” (Wesley). God does not view you as a paycheck or as an object to be mistreated and discarded. God views you as worthy of His calling, shed blood, and unfailing love.

PRAYER FOCUS

Lord God, even for survivors who know who you are, there is the pervasive feeling of guilt and shame. Guilt and shame obscure the knowledge that you are a God who loves and forgives. I pray that they know that you love them with an everlasting love and that you draw them with kindness. It is your kindness that leads us to repentance. Thank you, God, that nothing will separate us from you. You are for us.

There is no I in team. Imagine a wedding ceremony when the pastor reminds the young couple that “two are better than one” (Ecclesiastes 4:9). Two minds, two sets of hands, two sets of gifts can do much more than one. The work before us is so great, we must be unified, in peace and in love, to bring hope to this fallen world.

Lord, please open doors for new partnerships and teammates and strengthen current partnerships. May we work together to accomplish the task you have set before us. Lord, revive our work. May we have zeal and not quit. May we work together in peace and love. May we demonstrate unity and thank you, God, for our partnerships and the stakeholders with whom we work.

Prayers for Government and Wisdom for Legislators

PONDER

Strong anti-trafficking response is dependent, in part, on the wisdom of leaders and lawmakers. The laws and policies they create directly affect survivors’ access to justice. State and federal laws also dictate acceptable investigative procedures and sentencing for traffickers and buyers. Our leaders must be willing to address this issue if we want to make progress in the movement to end trafficking.

PRAYER FOCUS

Lord, I ask for wisdom for our lawmakers—first, that they become fully aware of the reality of sex trafficking and how insidiously it occurs, and then that they will be bold enough to act on the knowledge. Make them wise and perceptive, Lord. Please divinely reveal to us how we can be in the right place at the right time. Provide opportunities for our paths to intersect and for you to show up
